Dr. Nathan “Nate” Perron has been a core faculty member for The Family Institute (TFI) at Northwestern University since June 2015, and has taught both online and on campus. While working full-time with the Counseling@Northwestern program, Nate also served as a staff therapist at TFI and specialized in counseling children and adolescents, individual adults, couples, and families. Nate currently lives in Wisconsin with his wife and five children.

Nate received his PhD in counselor education and supervision from Northern Illinois University in DeKalb, Illinois, along with a Master of Arts in counseling and a Master of Divinity from Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary in South Hamilton, Massachusetts. Nate maintains active counseling licenses in four states as a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in Wisconsin, a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor (LCPC) in Illinois, and a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) in New Hampshire, , and Vermont. He is also a National Board-Certified Counselor (NCC) with the National Board for Certified Counselors (NBCC), and an Approved Clinical Supervisor (ACS) with the Center for Credentialing and Education (CCE).

Nate has been actively involved with service and leadership in the areas of international counseling, faith integration in counseling, and law enforcement wellness and resiliency. Nate serves with the International Association for Counselling (IAC) currently as Secretary of the Executive Council, and Chair of the Counselling Practitioners’ Round Table. Nate serves the American Counseling Association (ACA) as Co-Chair of the International Committee and as Co-Chair of the First Responder task force for the Military and Government Counseling Association (MGCA). Nate became registered as a master trainer for the Mental Health Facilitator programs with the National Board for Certified Counselors- International (NBCC-I), and has facilitated several collaborations between organizations and institutions to advance the MHF training. Nate has been actively involved with advancing law enforcement and first responder training, and serves on the Board of the Nationwide Chaplain Services. Nate has served his local communities, wherever he has lived, in professional counseling since 2005, and has taught undergraduate and graduate students in counseling, psychology, and human services since 2008.

Nate continues ongoing research and practice interests in the areas of international counseling, police and first responder wellness, faith integration in counseling, and child and adolescent counseling. Nate also has been actively involved in supporting marriage, family, and parenting issues, Christian counseling, depression and anxiety, and grief and loss.
