
Valerie Moreno-Tucker, PhD, LCPC, CRC

Valerie Moreno-Tucker (she|her), PhD, LCPC, CRC, is a Core Faculty Member with the Family Institute at Northwestern University.
Dr. Moreno received her PhD in counselor education and supervision (2022) and a post-graduate certificate in Trauma Informed Counseling (2018) from Northern Illinois University. She has been a LCPC [Illinois] since 2010, and a CRC for over twenty years. Dr. Moreno has taught in higher education since 2013.
Dr. Moreno’s clinical practice is dedicated to working with individuals experiencing symptoms related to a traumatic event/s or systemic, collective, intergenerational, or developmental trauma/s. She is IFS informed and EMDR certified.
Dr. Moreno’s research and practice interests include trauma informed counseling, LGBTQ+ persons’ experiences in counseling, and serving persons with disabilities in counseling.
In addition to her scholarly work, Dr. Moreno has enjoyed service to the counseling profession as a professional counseling journal reviewer, conference proposal reviewer, and a DMH (disaster mental health) volunteer with the American Red Cross. She received the Illinois SAIGE (Society for Sexual, Affectional, Intersex and Gender Expansive Identities) research development grant in both 2024 and 2022.
Her language proficiencies include both English and American Sign Language.
